Here comes another artwork from my The Dark Eye series - once again of my own PnP character, the mage Marisana.
I made a rather simple portrait for her ages ago and really wanted to give her a more "scenic" portrait like I did with Bärfried and Thorag, so here we go!
So you can see Marisana at one of her favorite hobbies here - scouting ancient Saurian ruins in search of forgotten magic and knowledge. Let's just hope the rest of her party is near by... these marshes are never safe.
I tried a lot of new things here - creating the Marsh setting, playing with different kinds of lighting, texturing Marisana's outfit... it took me a while, but I learned a lot - and it was a whole bucket full of fun!
More in the DARK EYE series

What struck me first about this picture was the colours, a kind of swamp green, dark and ominous. I love the beasties lurking in the background (looks suspiciously like a pair of tyrannosaurus rex but who cares, they're practically dragons). I always enjoy the little details you put into your pictures, it's something I try to do myself if the picture allows.
There is something oddly flat about the background, as if the blurry shapes are projected against a flat sheet. I wonder if it is possible to put different levels of blurry vegetation in layers, just to create more depth? Either way the mood in the picture is great, I can almost hear the breathless hush and the dripping of the swamp.

Like all complex programs, it takes a little while to get used to Carrara, but it's definitely worth a try!
What are you struggling with? Maybe I can help?
