... moving on to pastures new...

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 15, 2010, 3:21 AM

::News::

:bulletpurple: ART CORNER:bulletpurple:
Last week, I had what could be called my first artistic crisis. I looked at the stuff in my gallery, and realised all of a sudden that I was highly frustrated with the latest artworks I have done. I always enjoyed working with Poser, and adding postwork in Photoshop to the mix helped me to improve my art a lot, but I realised that I was chaining my muse because using Poser adds some serious restrictions to my art bunnies, especially if you enjoy making grand scenes and adding lots of details as much as I do. :hmm:

So I pondered about that for a while, and finally decided to say ‘Good bye’ to Poser and make the next step, fully intending to create all my 3D stuff from sketch in Cinema 4D from now on, and to enhance my digital painting skills to boot. :faint:

That means that I’m spending most of my freetime with Digital Drawing and C4D video tutorials right now, but since I’m feeling all excited about it I guess it was the right decision. :giggle:

So for all of you who are wondering what I’m up to right now, take a look at this deviation:

Taris Skyscraper 1st Concept by KaanaMoonshadow

It’s my first conceptual art done with Photoshop (and the first time I’ve drawn and shaded a building at all), so please be gentle. ;)

For all my fellow KotOR fans these skyscrapers could look somewhat familiar – it’s the planet of Taris, as a part of my planned Worlds of KotOR series. They are part of the first 3D setting that I want to create, and I chose them because their shapes are relatively simple… or so I hope. The plan is that I create the buildings in C4D and paint the sky/scenery and rest of the postwork with CS3 – keep your fingers crossed that it will work. :w00t:

:bulletpurple: DEVIANT NEWS:bulletpurple:
That aside, I have joined Realm-of-Fantasy as a moderator a few days ago. It has been one of my favourite groups for a long time, and when they called for new moderators, I decided to help them out.

As far as I can tell, both the members and fellow mods are friendly and talented people and very active, so if you’re still looking for a cool group to feature your Fantasy or SciFi art, come and take a look! ;)

And I fully intend to be more active here on my account as well, to answer comments more quickly and to browse your galleries and leave feedback to thank you all for your support.

Let’s just hope that my job will co-operate this time. :D

Cheers, and take good care everyone!

~Kaana

I fully support your choice.

Personally, I don't like Poser, since it's just like a puzzle and you add up bits to make a picture.

Drawing and painting and more complicated 3D software will give you way more freedom. :)

It's so nice to see you're still around and keep an eye on me! :glomp:

I think it was just a matter of time before I started to do more digital painting. I first used Poser, then went over to CS3 for postwork reasons and now, with more experience, I want to draw even more with my tablet. It seems like a natural progress, so I'm interested where it will take me. :excited:

My current work will have painted hair, clothes, fur and even a self-created background, so there's much potential for frustration there. But I like to start something new now and then, so any concrit is highly appreciated. It will be cool to chat with you about your favourite brushes for clothes and armour! :D

I'll be on a business trip this week, so I don't know when I can answer the rest of your comments but I really appreciate that you're taking your time to comment on these artworks and my other journal.

I hope all is well on your side of the ocean? :tighthug:

What you'll notice is that I always come back to my favourite fandoms even if it takes some time, so there will be much more DAO fanart one day.

I totally intend to try my hand on Morrigan and her outfit once I start fiddling with character modelling, so that should fill the 'sexy' bill. ;P

Nah, you can do truly decent stuff with Poser, too. It's just not that good with handling large scenes or with building your own content, so I'm moving on. ;)

Digital painting scares me a lot more, because I'm really starting right at the beginning there. It will be interesting to see whether I can handle that, too. :D

Definitely looking forward to what you get going on next artistically. And I hear what you're saying. I have to admit, I have been at a sort crossroads, artistically speaking, myself as well.

And you are a great addition to the Group as a Mod. You've picked up everything really fast and definitely know what your doing, the Group can only benefit from having someone like you on board :D

I noticed your lack of new art lately, and it's a good thing to take a break sometimes to find out what you really want to do. Are you planning to move on to a new media, too, or are you still thinking about your new direction?

I simply realised that I was looking at certain images here on dA and thought "Damn, I want to do that, too!"... and then thought "What the hell is stopping you?" :giggle:

So I decided to improve my painting skills to get the backgrounds I want, and to model my own figures and buildings and all to keep my art bunnies wild and active.

It's just a bit scary to start as a noob again. I'm working on my first digital painting now, and it looks... well, like my first.

I see how it can be a bit daunting to start over, but it's not really starting over. It's more of picking up some different tools and approaching things from a different perspective, your imagination and creativity are still in tact.

And as for myself it's not one of those "my muse is gone moments", quite the contrary. But like anything if you do it for too long you can get complacent and develop tunnel-vision. So I am just trying to figure stuff out ;)

It's just hard to make a step back and start at noob level again, but it cannot be helped. ;)

My Poser muse had run dry lately, which was probably due to the fact that my art bunnies were highly frustrated with the limitations of the tool because right now, ideas are bouncing around my appartment like mad because C4D and Photoshop together are opening so many new opportunities.

Maybe you should try something new, too, and expand your horizon?

I am honestly not sure where I want to go with it yet. My interests can change suddenly without warning, and things that I invested a lot of time in, can simply be put aside and collect dust, only to be picked up again later. It's not a lack of muse for me, more of my "muse" changes shapes and forms and I follow it around through different mediums and such. I have distractions a plenty, and digital art is just one of many things I like to do.

Believe me, I fully understand. Can you believe that I actually know people that have no idea what to do with themselves if they are on vacation and just stay at home?

I've so many hobbies and things that I really like to do (and a husband ;)) that I'd never moan that I cannot keep myself occupied.
