365 Days of Speedpainting
RULES - Make a speed painting every day - It shouldn't take longer than two hours
DAY 12
Spring has been a busy time of the year so far. I did do quite a bit of painting but it were mostly doodles that weren't anything worth posting. But this week, I felt like I should actually get some painting done and began sketching an idea that had been in my head for quite some time now - using no reference whatsoever for the first time!
For this speed painting, I only knew that I wanted to paint this magical dream tree with the soft glowing lights and created the setting around it stroke by stroke just on whims of my imagination. It made for a very fun and relaxing exercise and although there are still a million things wrong with it I feel good for being able to create something decent-looking without reference for once!
I also followed the advice of
to take it easy on the custom brushes, and am happy to say that this speed paint only used one custom brush for the leaves and was otherwise created with only using one other brush. And while I do believe that custom brushes are really helpful and not necessarily a bad thing, I think it made for a great exercise to try and paint the shapes I wanted completely on my own this time.
